The simple answer to this question is no; not all vinyl fences are the same. Vinyl fences come in various designs, sizes, and qualities of vinyl fences that a consumer would want to consider before installing a vinyl fence.

The purpose of your new fence best determines the decision about what vinyl fence to purchase. First, consider the vinyl material and brand differences.

The Top Vinyl Fence Materials

As suggested in the name, vinyl fences are made out of, you guessed it, vinyl. However, there are two different processes that vinyl fences are made that can determine the strength and durability of your fence.

Virgin Vinyl vs. Recycled Vinyl

Virgin Vinyl is made purely out of vinyl with no added foreign materials. Instead, virgin vinyl is made out of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin. PVC is known for its strength and durability, making it ideal for fences exposed to harsher climates.

Recycled vinyl’s name implies it’s made out of recycled products, but they aren’t mixed with any other products such as wood or plastic. Instead, recycled vinyl consists of new scraps and pieces of vinyl making your fence hundred percent vinyl. Due to the mixing process, the vinyl loses some strength compared to virgin vinyl but is still incredibly strong and weather resistant.

The difference in strength between these types of vinyl is minimal. The most significant factors determining your decision are the cost, style, commercial-grade, and UV protection.

Commercial Grade Versus Residential Grade

The residential grade is most famous for its affordable price and variety of styles and colors. This versatile product comes with a curbside appeal that can accommodate your unique style. The con of residential is it is not as durable as commercial.

Pros

  • Cost-effective.
  • Variety of style and colors.
  • Less expensive to repair or replace.

Cons

  • Thinner grade.
  • Less support, strength, and stability.
  • Less UV resistance/durability.

Commercial-grade product is more expensive upfront but is commonly preferred for its durability and less maintenance. It is made with a rigid, seamless support interlocking system and higher UV resistance, making it resistant to all forms of weather.

Pros

  • High UV resistance, reducing sun and weather damage.
  • Thicker grade.
  • Low maintenance.
  • More strength and durability.

Cons

  • More expensive
